Types of Asbestos Removal - There are three main categories of asbestos work:

1. Licensed Work

All licensed asbestos removal must be carried out by an HSE Licensed Asbestos Removal Contractor (LARC) to meet legal requirements.

2. Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW) & Non-Licensed Work

Non-licensed and NNLW tasks must follow HSE guidance in Asbestos Essentials. Personnel must receive the correct training, instruction, and information to manage risks and protect themselves and others from asbestos exposure.

Air Monitoring & Testing

If air testing is required, it should be carried out by an independent UKAS-accredited laboratory. To avoid conflicts of interest, the lab should not be appointed by the remediation company and should be integrated into your Asbestos Management Plan.

Asbestos Waste Disposal

Proper disposal is critical. If you hold an upper tier waste carriers license, small amounts of asbestos waste can be transported safely to a fully licensed asbestos waste transfer station, even without a skip.
