A 14-year-old girl has become one of the youngest sufferers in the world to be diagnosed with an asbestos-related cancer.
Macie Greening, of Cullompton, Devon, is one of only nine children in the world to be suffer from mesothelioma after she was diagnosed in March. But despite undergoing four rounds of chemotherapy, Macie has been told her treatment hasn't worked and is now pinning her hopes on fresh trials becoming available.
Macie's aunt, Sonia Hurst, said: 'It was hoped she could have surgery but we've since learnt that is not an option.
Macie suffers from peritoneal mesothelioma, which starts in the tissue lining of the abdomen and is caused by inhaling or swallowing asbestos fibers. There are just 500 sufferers diagnosed each year, with just nine children currently fighting the disease.
